| The Kidney Cancer Association is a membership organization made up of patients, family members, physicians, researchers, and other health professionals. Each year, more than 30,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with kidney cancer. Kidney cancer is difficult to diagnose and treat for many reasons. No standard protocol has proven very successful in treating advanced kidney cancer. Historically, kidney cancer has proven to be resistant to many chemotherapy agents and radiation therapy. The most enduring standard treatment, interleukin - 2 (IL - 2), has been around only since the early 90's with a success rate of 15 to 20 percent. It is the only FDA-approved treatment for kidney cancer. Thus, more research funding is needed. [ more info! ] |

| The State High Lift for Life is being organized in conjunction with the Penn State football team's Lift for Life. Lift for Life is an independent non-profit organization founded by members of the Penn State football team determined to raise funds and awareness for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of kidney cancer. In 2003, the members of the Penn State Football team launched the first annual Lift for Life competition, using a summer lifting competition to raise over $13,000 for the Kidney Cancer Association. This past summer, the second annual Lift for Life grew tremendously raising over $38,000 to fight kidney cancer. Being the only student-athlete founded non-profit organization in the country; the mission of Lift for Life is to inspire student-athletes at universities and high schools across the country to get involved and make a difference in their communities. The State High Lift for Life competition hopes to join this mission and become an annual event that supports the Kidney Cancer Association in the fight against this deadly disease. [ more info! ] |
